Sport: how to stay motivated?

How do we stay motivated when all the reasons for giving up seem acceptable? Sport: how to stay motivated? Between making good sports resolutions, going back to school, or taking on personal challenges, finding a good reason to engage in sports is not complicated. But once you've found that reason, do you still need to truly motivate yourself? And how do you avoid falling back into your daily routine where everything seems more tempting than going for a run in the rain? The real challenge begins once you've started: maintaining the motivation to stay active.

We understand your struggle, which is why we've designed this article to help you stay motivated.

WHAT IS MOTIVATION?

Motivation is what drives us to take action! You know, that little voice that gets you out of bed in the morning, the one that pushes you to go, the one that allows you to set goals and achieve them. It's also this motivation that makes you look forward to a great workout! You can hear it, but sometimes it plays tricks on you. Sometimes it even abandons you. Well, motivation is like an old friend. Weeks can go by without seeing her, but when she's there, we have a great time! So how do you reconnect with an old friend? You create an opportunity to see her again. Create that opportunity for yourself by setting a goal to bring back your motivation.

HOW TO STAY MOTIVATED TO DO SPORTS?

Let's explore the different stages of our motivation when we start or resume a sport.

  1. The euphoria of the beginning

We progress rapidly, have fun, explore new things, and are driven by novelty and discovery. With consistency, progress is quick in the beginning. However, this is where you need to be cautious and moderate your practice. Don't overdo it to avoid injuries or getting bored.

  1. Stagnation

You reach a plateau where it feels like you're not making any further progress. The lack of visible results can be mentally challenging. Progress becomes slower, and suddenly, your motivation dwindles, and the initial euphoria wears off. These are the moments when you must rely on your mindset and persevere to continue your sessions. These "progress plateaus" are necessary for integrating new motor and intellectual skills and allowing your muscles to recover.

  1. Progress

Rest assured, if you consistently engage in your activity, your progress curve will start ascending again. Your motivation for sports will shine brightly! Often, phases 2 and 3 alternate, so hang in there!
