I lost motivation

How can you regain your desire to practice your sport or any other activity that you have committed to? I lost motivation.

Demotivation

In these times, talking about demotivation is easy when we are experiencing a pandemic. It has become much more difficult to train and continue practicing our sports under the usual conditions.

All our routines have been disrupted and changed as we had to adapt to the new situation. We no longer have interaction with our teammates and training partners, and we find ourselves alone in this situation. Many athletes will lose motivation due to changes in their plans, such as canceled or postponed competitions. When your goal is pushed back, it becomes challenging to maintain a sense of direction.

How can we continue to stay motivated when the goal we set is no longer approaching and no longer seems relevant?

Many people wonder if it is important to stay connected to their activity when their goals are postponed. What is the point of training when a significant part of it is driven by the goal we have in sight? So, how can we stay connected to our activity in the face of change? Lessons must be learned.

Why are you losing motivation? Is it solely because your competition has been postponed, or is there something else? Is it the absence of your teammates and partners training with you and supporting you? It is crucial to understand the cause of this loss of motivation if you want to reignite the passion for your activity. By identifying the cause, you can find solutions to regain enthusiasm for your sport.

Part of this lack of motivation stems from the feeling that you are powerless in the face of the situation when, in fact, there are many things within your control.

You can choose to take advantage of this period to work on aspects that are usually neglected when you have a busy schedule and training. It is a great opportunity to diversify and consider what you want to improve during this time. It is a mistake to think that you are alone. Even though team spirit may seem lost, you can still reach out to your teammates and create action plans to work together.

When motivation wanes, immersing yourself in the field of your sport can be a solution. Here are a few ways to do so:
  • Read books on your sport.
  • Study videos related to your sport.
  • Explore the mental aspect of your sport.

Pick up some books on sports psychology and study the various elements that can be incorporated into your training.

During this period, you need to be more creative to continue progressing. If you are not training or regressing, you are losing your skills. Therefore, it is crucial to keep progressing.

The key to motivation lies in your environment and the people you surround yourself with.

Will you truly be able to resume your sport with the same level of enthusiasm once the containment is over? Will you still have the same desire you had at the very beginning?
